Sony Ericsson Elm - Environmentally Friendly

The Sony Ericsson Elm is a 3G phone that is a member of the GreenHeart range. The exterior of this phone is made of recycled plastic. Even the packaging is kept to a minimum and it also comes with an e manual to save on paper usage. This phone is even made with fewer chemicals and includes an energy saving battery.

The phone itself is easy to operate with one hand since it is 1.4cm x 4.5cm and only weighs 90 grams. Even the energy saving battery is lightweight. The 2.2 inch touch screen has a resolution of 240x320 pixels and 256,000 colors. The alphanumeric keypad is very easy to use since the keys are slightly curved and the backlighting is strong. 

You’ll really enjoy snapping pictures of family and friends with the 5 mega pixl camera included with this phone. The camera resolution is 2592x1944 pixels: it also features LED flash, auto focus smile detection, face detection, auto rotate, macro mode, spot metering and geo tagging. The videos recordings also come out nice and clear thanks to the video light that brightens even the darkest areas. The Sony Ericsson Elm’s video player has a feature that allows you to play back your videos and also stream them. 

Another great feature of the Elm is the media center. The music player is the latest Walkman version and the media center pulls all your media content together such as your photos, music, games, videos and RSS feeds. The media center menu is easy to use and you have the option of portrait or landscape mode. The formats supported by the player are; MP3, WAV, WMA, M4A and eAAC+.

As for connectivity the Elm will keep you connected with its 2G and 3G networks. It also supports Wi-Fi, HSDPA, USB, Bluetooth, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, WLAN and PictBridge. You also get AccessNetFront Web browser and internet features like Web feeds, bookmarks and YouTube. You can easily access all your favorite social networks too, like MySpace, Twitter and FaceBook. 

The energy saving battery that comes with the Elm will give you up to 10 hours of GSM talk time, 4 hours 3G talk time and up to 446 hours of stand by time between charges. For storage the phone offers 280 megabytes of internal memory. You also have the option of adding up to 16 gigabytes of memory via a micro SD card. 

We thought that this device has a great camera and a fantastic media player.  We also liked how lightweight it is. 

However we were disappointed in the fact that this phone did not have a 3.5mm headphone jack and we weren’t impressed with the screen. We also thought it could use a better flash unit and a little more internal memory. 

If you are looking for a basic phone that acts like a smart phone and you are concerned with the environment then we think you would be very happy with the Sony Ericsson Elm. Price wise, the Sony Ericsson Elm is not bad and there are cheap mobile phone deals available for it too.
